The location I am going to use in my Music Video is in Shrewsbury on the Quarry and also in the Town Hall Studio.

The studio which I used is located upstairs and has a number of different pieces of equipment which helps make my Music Video look more professional.

The other location that I used was Shrewsbury Quarry. I thought the quarry was a good location because at night it looks very gloomy and under the street lights it gave the different clips and shots a mysterious and on edge type of feeling which is exactly what I was looking for. I did films some clips in this setting but after a lot of idea changing I decided to not use them because I had a new different idea on what I wanted to do in my music video, so in the end I just used Wem Town Hall in the media studio using the professional equipment and the artificial lighting.

I kept intouch with my actors using 'Facebook Chat' this was a good way to stay intouch and make sure that everyone was available for the chosen time and location, which was at Wem Town Hall Media Studio, after college at 4;30+

The target audience for my Music Video will be people who enjoy music from the indie genre and bands, live music and less upbeat and happy music, more meaningful with a story behind it.

Style:

The two locations that I will be using for my Music Video is The Quarry in Shrewsbury and the Town Hall in Wem. In the town hall I will be filming all of my actors separately under the artificial light making it look more professional, then I will be using Shrewsbury Quarry to add the more mysterious feeling to the Music Video. ( I since decided to not use Shrewsbury Quarry although I did do some filming there, as my idea changed on what I wanted to do, which was something a bit different to a normal indie/pop music video)

Colour Palette:

The colour palette of my Music Video will be dull and darker which will add the mysterious feel to the music video. In a typical indie/pop music video the lighting is quite dull and the costumes used are also dark and nothing to bright, which is what I will be using in mine, aswell as the song being about 'Flaws' I am going to make sure the actors are wearing as minimum makeup as they can.

Digipak Research

Digipaks are a eco-friendly way to store your Disk because it is using less plastic than the normal Plastic CD case, as it can be made from recycled cardboard with just a small bit of plastic to store the Disk or none at all. It is also a modern and quite stylish way to advertise your Album. I am researching different templates and ideas for CD Digipak's so that I have a better idea when it comes to making my own and I have some inspiration. I first of all looked on the website ' duplication.ca ' which showed me a list of different standard templates that I could choose from, for my own Digipak. 

These are the simplest Digipaks, which include the must haves on a CD cover/case for example, a tray (or something that can hold the CD Disk) then a frount cover that includes a title and then on the back a barcode, track list and company logo's.

They then have more complicated Digipaksk, for example.

These are more detailed CD Digipaks so that you can add even more information on of your choice for example, more images that are related to the album on the inside of the cover and information on all the different tracks.  You can also include artist details and maybe even a few pages which includes lyrics. If the artist has a more than one CD you can also add another plastic CD case onto the Digipak if it has 6 panels or more.

I made this mood board from a variety of different Bastille Music Videos, so that it would give me some inspiration on what I can do for my own Music Video on Bastille - Flaws. Most of Bastilles songs are quite sad and meaningful and not very happy and cheerful so for my Music Video I am going to try and set the same type of mood that Bastille do. Their videos are a lot different to other music videos of the Indie Pop genre for example in most other Music Videos they mainly have performance for example the 1975's Music Videos.

I am going to also research into other Artists of the Indie Pop genre and watch their Music Videos mainly looking at performance so that I can get some inspiration on how they set it out and make it suit the Track of Bastille - Flaws.

For my filming location I have a few different places in mind first off I have thought of filming at Shrewsbury Quarry. I think this is a good setting for my Music Video because it is quite chilled out and peaceful and thats the kind of mood I want to set in my Music Video.

I also thought of a different location as a back-up just in case filming at the Quarry didn't turn out well, this is Morton Corbet which is in near Shawbury. This is a bit of a different location than the other as it is more chilled out and quite, as Shrewsbury down the town and bridge it will be a lot busier. Here are some pictures of this location.

Treatment - Colour Pallette

I have been watching a selection of Bastilles Music Videos to get an idea on what the Colour Palettes are like, I have noticed that the colouring is mainly dark and dull, but there is the occasional clips with bright colour. I am mainly looking at the Music Video Flaws as that is the track that I am using for my Music Video.

The colouring really represents the mood of the track for example the track seems to come across that he is singing about his flaws and how he hides them then he meets a women who shows all of her flaws, so the song isn't exactly happy and jolly it is quite sad and makes you think, so by the colouring being dark and dull it really represents the track. As the song goes on the mood kind of picks up a bit when he is singing about wanting to be with her and the colouring also gets a bit brighter.. for example there is clips of them on a fairground which has a wide variety of different brighter colours.

Music Video Ideas

In my Music Video I have decided that I would like to have a story to it other than a video of whoever is in my video performing throughout the whole thing and playing instruments, because in Bastille's Music Videos normally it just has a story to it, for example in Flaws its set on a fair by a beach using actors dressed as skeletons with face paint on, then in Pompeii it is similar. Although, in Pompeii there is actually limited footage of them performing, but it is only now and again and lasts no longer than 3 seconds each time. Here are some screen shots.

 I have been looking through most of Bastille's different Music Videos to make sure that my research is correct and I am on the right tracks for my Music Video Ideas. In their Music Video Oblivion there is performance but it's part of the story in the Video because it is a girl miming to the song which is sung by a male and she is stood in the middle of a stadium which has loads of old battered racing cars driving around. So even though there is performance it's not any of the official members of Bastille, its part of the story.

The next Music Video that I looked at was 'Things We Lost In The Fire' and again this video was mainly acting with very limited performance.

Now that I have done some research, it has helped me slightly with what to do for my Music Video on the track 'Flaws' I know what type of setting that they are normally based in and what their outfits are like which has given me plenty of inspiration on what to do for my own video.

For costume I would like to use a similar look to something that Bastille would choose.

I have been looking on several Bastille music videos to get some inspiration on what I think would look good. In Bastilles videos the outfits are mainly plain and simple. For example in the Music Video Pompeii, the outfit that has been chosen is a simple brown leather jacket with a black top and black jeans, this means that the audience is mainly taking notice on whats happening in the video and the lyrics rather than looking at what he is wearing. 

I also looked at Bastilles video flaws which is the track that I have chosen, to see what ideas they had and get some inspiration. The outfit choice on this Music Video is slightly different to their normal Videos. They have chosen a more eye catching basketball type of jacket and a logo t-shirt.

I annotated the lyrics for the track that I am using Bastille - Flaws so that I had an idea on what I thought myself the Music Video and track itself was about. My idea could be a lot different to what anyone else thinks, it just helps me think of ideas for my video and what to take footage of. What I thought the Music Video basically was about was that he hides his flaws and the girl that he is singing about doesn't hide hers, she shows all her flaws "she always wears her flaws up on her sleeve" and he is basically singing explaining that he wants to show all his flaws like her he doesn't want to hide them anymore and then I think he is also saying how he wants to be with her because he says "theres a hole in my soul can you fill it can you fill it."

Audience Feedback

For my Audience Research I also made a survey on Survey Monkey to see what different genre's of music people preferred but mainly based the questions on indie/rock/pop as that is what genre the track that I have chosen for my Music Video is. Three people chose indie music as their favorite genre then the two others chose rap. Here is a few screen shots of my feedback.

Audience Research

For my Audience Research I looked on Amazon at the reviews off customers on what they thought about Bastilles Album - Bad Blood. Most of the reviews were very positive.

Whilst I was viewing Bastille's other recommendations for different albums came up which were also in the Indie genre. These recommendations included albums such as The 1975 and London Grammar.

I then looked on YouTube at some of the comments on Bastilles music video - Flaws, which is the track that I am using for my own music video. Again most of the comments and feedback were positive.

I looked on Bastilles official FaceBook page for different comments and reviews on the band themself, and the first thing that came up on the top of the page was other recommended pages that are similar to Bastille's. These included artists such as Ed Sheeran, Passenger and bands such as Imagine Dragons and Arctic Monkeys.

I decided to search for reviews on some of Bastilles concerts and the feedback was extremely positive some people even posted some videos of their own on the site to show how good the concert was. I looked on ticket master because I thought that would be where I would find the most feedback. Here are some screenshots of my re-search that I found.

I sent an e-mail to Black Fox Management to request permission to use one of Bastille's songs - Flaws for my music video.

Music Video Analysis - Paloma Faith

The next Music Video I have chosen to analyse is Sigma ft. Paloma Faith - Changing. The genre of this track is dance and pop but then all of Sigmas music is Drum N Bass so I would say that this track is a mixture of the three. This music video again is the complete opposite to the other two video's that I have analysed. The color pallette is bright and eye-catching which grabs the audiences attention and makes them want to carry on watching, the outfits and backgrounds that have been chosen completely clash because in one bit of the music video Paloma Faith is wearing a multicolored top and dress which have flower like patterns on it then the wall in the background is like graffiti so they clash but it doesn't look bad at all it is eye catching and different which makes it more interesting. A mixture of different camera angles have also been used and there is loads of different cuts to different shots.

Music Video Anaylisis - Bastille Pompeii

My second video I have chosen to analyse is Bastilles music video - Pompeii
which genre is indie rock, this genre of music is a lot different to the other music video I chose by Kiesza. Pompeii was released in 2013. 

The setting of the music video is based in a city, and the colour palette is dark. The clothes the man in the video is wearing are dark and so is the sky and all the buildings, which gives the audience a feeling that the song isnt going to be very cheerful and happy its going to be a bit more sad and meaningful. The first line that the singers says is " I was left to my own devices" and in the video he is walking around on his own and gives the audience a feel that he is lonely and has nobody.

There is a variety of different camera shots. It starts with a medium to long over the shoulder shot, where the focus is on the back of the man and the city is all blurred out.
This music video has a lot of different cuts with a variety of different shots, I counted at least 86 or more cuts throughout the whole video.

Music Video Anaylsis - Kiesza

KIESZA - HIDEAWAY ANAYLSIS

The music video that I have chosen to analyze is Kiesza - Hideaway which is the genre deep house. The first thing we notice when we watch the video is the setting is that it looks like its set in america because of a few different things, First of all she gets out of a stereotypical american yellow cab thats number plate is american, and also they are driving on the opposite side of the road.

This video is a lot different to most music videos because there isn't any cutting at all, its just one long music video. Kiesza is following the camera as if she singing and dancing to the viewer. The camera is always moving and pointing wherever she is. Also the camera is always looking down on her. You can notice that she is lip syncing because she is dancing around and moving so much, she wouldnt possibly be able to sing properly.

The camera angles are mainly medium - long shots and the camera is on a central track so wherever she moves you can still see her full body and where she is moving to. The music video isn't actually linked to the video, it sounds like she is singing about a past relationship, but the video is just her dancing down the street. 

Lighting/Overcranking Video Experiment

At the end of Year 12 the whole class was put into two separate groups, in these groups we had to choose a track our group chose 'Coldplay- Yellow' and we were told to make a quick first go at a Music Video where we had to use 'Over Cranking' which is simply just putting the video into slower motion but by filming it at a higher speed then when editing slowing it down again. Most of this video was filmed in the Media Studio with professional artificial lighting, but as you can also see some of the Video is simply just by the actor of the video Ashley Gillott who is holding the camera up himself and video himself by listening to the song through his earphones. By being given this task, it has helped me a lot and given me a good idea on what to do when I have to make my own Music Video.
