Evaluation Question 4
How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout the media course I have used a number of different media technologies to construct my media product. My planning and research skills have developed better over time.
Research has been an important media technology when constructing my media products. Using re-search it gives you a good idea on what to include in your own work, helping you make your media product more professional looking. I used research in my own media product for everything that I have produced throughout the course, for example starting with my thriller opening sequence. I researched a number of different thrillers opening sequences to give me an idea on what camera angles, shots and colour palette to use in a typical thriller.
Recently in my current media work research has been a big help because I was working on my own, so I needed more inspiration and help on how to produce and create different media products, for example I was quite confident when creating my website to advertise my Music Video and Digipak but when it came to what colour palette to use for my chosen artist, I was a bit stuck. So I researched a number of different Indie/Pop artists website's to give me some inspiration. From my research I realized that mainly all indie artists have more simple and plain layouts to their websites with a darker colour palette.
Planning was also a big part of creating my media products. After doing my research I had to plan what I was going to do and how I was going to do it. When creating my music video I had to make sure I could stay in contact with the actors that were used in my music video, so I used Facebook group chat to update and keep in-touch with them, to make sure the date, time and place would be appropriate for them. I also had to plan out my digipak so after re-searching on the layout of different digipaks and the colour palette of a typical indie artist, I drew out a plan of what my digipak was going to look like and I also made a draft copy which I folded up to see what it was going to look like.
My music video was what took more planning as I struggled on what to do in it, I wanted to follow the typical indie/pop artist music video where it had an actual meaning to the video, but at the same time I wanted to do something different so after a lot of swapping and changing my ideas, I finally decided to do something a bit different, but also something that has been included in a music video before, and this was a medium shot in the same setting (the media studio) and with the same layout of a number of different actors miming to the song but when edited, it flicks from different actors throughout the song making it interesting but a bit different to a normal indie music video. Audience feedback also helped me a lot with my media product because I used the feedback to help my work become better. I took the feedback that I received and made it useful by trying to work out what would look better in my media music video.

Evaluation Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
By asking different people for audience feedback it has helped me a lot when creating my product, for example. I made a questionnaire on the different genres of music that people prefer mainly aiming it at the genre I chose myself which was Indie/pop, to make sure that the artist I chose (Bastille) would be a popular music video for people who enjoy indie music or others who choose to watch it. Here is an example of some of my feedback

After finding out the basics on what people like about indie music and what genre of music they liked the most it helped me keep my decision of using Bastille's track 'Flaws' as I knew I would get a good audience of people watching it who like that genre of music.
By asking what people expect to see in an indie/pop music video it also helped me create ideas of my own and think of better ideas on what to put in my music video, although in the end I did change my mind to do something completely different. It did help me at the time and gave me a better idea on what people like to see in music videos of the indie genre.
I also used Audience Feedback after making a Rough Cut of my Music Video, by getting feedback from different people whilst making my media product it helped me as I knew if I was making something that they are going to enjoy and took any ideas that they gave me into consideration. My Rough Cut in general needed a lot of work as I was new to using Final Cut and wasn't as confident as I was working on my own so by getting audience feedback it helped me with ideas on what to do next and how to make my Music Video more professional looking.

Evaluation Question 1:
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My Media Product is a very basic but effective music video, after researching different music videos from the same genre, at first I was going to go down the same route of putting a story to it, but in the end I decided to be a bit different. So i just filmed a number of different people and synced the video to the track on Final Cut. Then after I had got all the clips I wanted i played around and edited it to how i imagined it to be, with the actors in the same position in each shot so it was just more as if their faces are just changing not the whole of them, although you can tell that the whole shot is changing it is the closest I could get to how I wanted it.
The costume that I used in my Music Video were very basic and casual just something somebody would wear any-day, nothing to smart which I thought goes with the Track well as it is a more indie track and has more of a meaning to it, it is quite a sad song about flaws and hiding your flaws. Which made me want to just keep the costume and make-up very casual.
I didn't use any props in my music video, again because I wanted to keep it simple.
When in the studio the camera was placed on a tripod which was set to the same distance for each person to make it look more effective when it switched from different people, as if their faces are just changing.
The audience that I created this music video is more for people who listen to the genre of indie music, although some people might just like this particular track. I tried to research into what people like and enjoy in a music video of this genre.Although I didn't take everything into consideration I still tried to think myself what I would like to see in an Indie music video, and that was something a bit different. So i tried to take everything into consideration to create something watchable and interesting but still similar to most indie music videos.
The lighting used in my Music Video was artificial so it was very bright and was basically a spotlight on all the actors, so it was quite intimate and just all about them. The colour palette in my music video was dark and not very eye-catching which is what I wanted, because in most Indie music videos that I had re-searched about they were the same, dull and not very eye-catching. I tried to keep the colour palette in all of the other elements of my music video the same, so that they all fit the same theme. Keeping the music video, digipak and website all the same keeps the audiences attention and makes it interesting, making them want to look on the website and watch the music video. Looking at all of my media products that I have produced they have been well constructed as they have all kept the same colour palette and theme throughout everything, which is very important and makes it look more professional.

Rough Cut Feedback
I asked a few people I know who would give me some honest feeback on my Roughcut, here is what comments I recieved back
Tom France -
"The short clip that I was shown of the Music Video is a good start with very clear and well recorded clips, it gives you a good idea on what finishing product will look like, I think that some of the clips should be a bit longer instead of cutting to different people suddenly but other than that it is coming a long good and I will be looking forward to seeing the final outcome of your Music Video."
Alison France-
"Very good start, some of the clips appear quite jumpy but with some more editing it will look a lot better, the syncing of the video is very much in time and looks great, will be looking forward to seeing it when it is finished, great start"
Nicola Grafton-
" I like how you have chosen to do something a bit more different than what other artists of this genre would normally do as it makes it more interesting. I like how you have filmed it in a proper studio with the artificial lighting as it makes it look very professional. Some of the clips seem to jump quite a bit making it not look as good as it could be, but that just takes some simple editing and other than that, really great start "

Music Video Rough Cut
Here is a Rough Cut of my video and how I am going to set it out. It is just a clip that is only a few seconds long, but gives you a good idea on what it is going to be like.

Magazine Analysis
In lesson we were given a number of different magazines to analyze and the two that me and Callum chose were called 'Classic Rock' and the other magazine we chose was called Un-cut.
We researched into Classic Rock and discovered that the producer of the magazine was Team Rock who brought it off Future Publishers in 2003. The genre of the magazine is Rock and the target audience is people who enjoy rock music, we decided that it would be for the older generation because it's older tracks and music although people from the younger generation might enjoy that type of music to. A free CD has been advertised with 14 different rock tracks on it, this is a good way of advertising different artist and bands tracks, because if the reader listens to the CD and enjoys one of the tracks they might consider buying that artists whole CD or listening to their music online etc.
By advertising different quotes and information on the outside it makes the reader want to carry on reading and look inside.
In Classic Rock they have a variety of different advertisements mainly for different rock albums, here is an example.
By making a whole page in the magazine full of albums it is good advertisement by dotting the images of all the albums together it makes it look more interesting and eye-catching, there isnt much text so you dont get bored whilst reading through it, the only text that has been used is what is actually essential for example the name of the album and the price and where it is from. The text is located in a small bright red box above the album or under the album making it more noticable and clear. They are all cheap albums aswell so people will be more tempted to try them all out to see what they are like.
The other magazine we chose was called un-cut , this magazine has a bit more going on, on the cover, although there is a lot of information there it is still easy and clear to read as it is short titles which is in bright red or black writing. This magazine also has a free sample CD on it, which again is a good way of advertising your music if your an artist. The purpose of this magazine is to inform the reader on different storys and to entertain, and the audience is I would say for the older and newer generation because on the cover is the singer Bowie but on the free CD it says '15 tracks of the best new music for 2015'
and it is mainly the younger generation who listen to newer music but then some of the older generation may like to read about Bowie.
Both magazines included web addresses which helped advertise their producer and also artists from the magazine.

Bastille DigiPak Research
I decided to do some research on Bastille's Digipak as that is the artist that I am using for my Music Video.
I particularly like Bastille's front cover of their digipak as it is a lot different to normal album covers, most digipaks are just a normal image of the artist or band and doesn't really have much of a story to it, but Bastille have instantly created suspense by having a image of who i guess to be the main singer 'Dan Smith' running away from someone this straight away adds suspense and makes us want to know what it is that he is running away from or even where he is running to? I also like the title, it is simple yet interesting and eye catching the way that they have used a triangle for the A in'Bad' and in 'Bastille' makes it a lot different to any other album cover and that's what I like about it.
The album cover in general is a lot similar to the type of music that they produce, as Bastille isn't so upbeat and happy but it is catchy. It is just more meaningful and has a story behind it. The light that's shining on the man gives us the impression that its car lights maybe, this makes the audience again think that he is being chased or is running away somewhere.
The back cover is interesting to as the first thing we notice is that the image behind the text is of car lights, which gives us the impression that it is what the man on the front cover was running from. I am guessing this is meant to be a point of view shot from the lead singer as he is running away from the car and turning around. Again the text on the back listing all the different tracks is simple but stands out and they have used the same theme of using triangles on all the letters 'A' This is one of my favorite albums and digipaks that I have seen as it has been well thought out and has a mysterious feel about it, I will be deffinately taking some ideas from this digipak for my own.

Website Research
Website Re-search
Here is the Home Page of Bastille's website, it is simple yet eye-catching making you want to keep on browsing the website.
Then from the homescreen you can click on any link at the top which i have highlighted round in red that links to a different part of the website for example. Music or the store or you can sign up to their website so you get updates on their new music or items on sale. When I clicked onto the music link a variety of different singles came up on the screen with pictures of their different single covers. I thought this was a really effective and eye-catching way to advertise all their music.
I found the Bastille website very different and eye-catching compared to any normal website which is what made it so much better because its not simple its been well thought out and set out yet still easy to browse on, I would like to make my website like this.
I then went onto looking on The 1975 website to see how they had set theirs out.
Again their website is similar to Bastille's as it has a simple yet very interesting lay out.
I like the fact that their album is the first thing that comes up as you click onto their website but you can still see some different things in the background that have just been faded out like different Music videos and concert photographs.
When you click onto one of the navigation bar links, again I decided to click on Videos first as that is what I am interested in advertising. The way that they have lay out all their Music Videos is very simple and clear to look at but still very eye-catching and also the Music Videos box's have been made bigger so that its a lot clearer and easier to watch.
By making the Music Video box's bigger it makes it better and also you don't have to put it onto full screen mode. They have also put all of the Track names above each Video. From comparing the two websites for advertising all their Music Videos I prefer the 1975 as it is more simple but easier to navigate where everything is. Although I still do like the layout of Bastille's because it is different and has been well thought out.
The next indie/pop band I chose to do some research on was the 'Arctic Monkeys' a very popular band, again from the other websites I have looked on the 'Arctic Monkeys' is very similar because it is simple but eye-catching. I like the way that they have just used black and white as a theme throughout the whole website it makes it look more professional and well put together rather than loads of different colours of text everywhere. They have also used a clear white font which makes it easy for anyone to read
On the navigation bar they have some different drop downs compared to the other band/artist websites that I have re-searched, the different links on the navigation bar have been well thought out, they have a fan forum page where different people can comment and read eachothers comments and it also has different polls and pages that fans of the Arctic Monkeys can read and fill out.
I think that adding a fan forum page was a good idea because they can read through what people actually think of them and what people all over the world have to say.
Another link on the navigation bar that I like the idea of is the photo's page it may sound simple and what everyone has on their website but they have dated each album image or photograph of the whole band from newest photo to oldest which would be extremely helpful if somebody was researching about the Arctic Monkeys through the years. It is also lay out well and is simple and easy to navigate around. Fans and other members of the public can also comment on the different images.
You can also sign-up to the website so that you can get updates through e-mail and you can also comment on all of the different photographs that are uploaded aswell as putting your own status' updates for other fans and members of the website to see.
