Evaluation Question 4
How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout the media course I have used a number of different media technologies to construct my media product. My planning and research skills have developed better over time.
Research has been an important media technology when constructing my media products. Using re-search it gives you a good idea on what to include in your own work, helping you make your media product more professional looking. I used research in my own media product for everything that I have produced throughout the course, for example starting with my thriller opening sequence. I researched a number of different thrillers opening sequences to give me an idea on what camera angles,shots and colour palette to use in a typical thriller.
Recently in my current media work research has been a big help because I was working on my own, so I needed more inspiration and help on how to produce and create different media products, for example I was quite confident when creating my website to advertise my Music Video and Digipak but when it came to what colour palette to use for my chosen artist, I was a bit stuck. So I researched a number of different Indie/Pop artists website's to give me some inspiration. From my research I realized that mainly all indie artists have more simple and plain layouts to their websites with a darker colour palette.
Planning was also a big part of creating my media products. After doing my research I had to plan what I was going to do and how I was going to do it. When creating my music video I had to make sure I could stay in contact with the actors that were used in my music video, so I used Facebook group chat to update and keep in-touch with them, to make sure the date, time and place would be appropriate for them. I also had to plan out my digipak so after re-searching on the layout of different digipaks and the colour palette of a typical indie artist, I drew out a plan of what my digipak was going to look like and I also made a draft copy which I folded up to see what it was going to look like.
My music video was what took more planning as I struggled on what to do in it, I wanted to follow the typical indie/pop artist music video where it had an actual meaning to the video, but at the same time I wanted to do something different so after a lot of swapping and changing my ideas, I finally decided to do something a bit different, but also something that has been included in a music video before, and this was a medium shot in the same setting (the media studio) and with the same layout of a number of different actors miming to the song but when edited, it flicks from different actors throughout the song making it interesting but a bit different to a normal indie music video. Audience feedback also helped me a lot with my media product because I used the feedback to help my work become better. I took the feedback that I received and made it useful by trying to work out what would look better in my media music video.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
By asking different people for audience feedback it has helped me a lot when creating my product, for example. I made a questionnaire on the different genres of music that people prefer mainly aiming it at the genre I chose myself which was Indie/pop, to make sure that the artist I chose (Bastille) would be a popular music video for people who enjoy indie music or others who choose to watch it. After finding out the basics on what people like about indie music and what genre of music they liked the most it helped me keep my decision of using Bastille's track 'Flaws' as I knew I would get a good audience of people watching it who like that genre of music.
By asking what people expect to see in an indie/pop music video it also helped me create ideas of my own and think of better ideas on what to put in my music video, although in the end I did change my mind to do something completely different. It did help me at the time and gave me a better idea on what people like to see in music videos of the indie genre.
I also used Audience Feedback after making a Rough Cut of my Music Video, by getting feedback from different people whilst making my media product it helped me as I knew if I was making something that they are going to enjoy and took any ideas that they gave me into consideration. My Rough Cut in general needed a lot of work as I was new to using Final Cut and wasn't as confident as I was working on my own so by getting audience feedback it helped me with ideas on what to do next and how to make my Music Video more professional looking.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My Media Product is a very basic but effective music video, after researching different music videos from the same genre, at first I was going to go down the same route of putting a story to it, but in the end I decided to be a bit different. So i just filmed a number of different people and synced the video to the track on Final Cut. Then after I had got all the clips I wanted i played around and edited it to how i imagined it to be, with the actors in the same position in each shot so it was just more as if their faces are just changing not the whole of them, although you can tell that the whole shot is changing it is the closest I could get to how I wanted it.
The costume that I used in my Music Video were very basic and casual just something somebody would wear any-day, nothing to smart which I thought goes with the Track well as it is a more indie track and has more of a meaning to it, it is quite a sad song about flaws and hiding your flaws. Which made me want to just keep the costume and make-up very casual.
I didn't use any props in my music video, again because I wanted to keep it simple.
When in the studio the camera was placed on a tripod which was set to the same distance for each person to make it look more effective when it switched from different people, as if their faces are just changing.
The audience that I created this music video is more for people who listen to the genre of indie music, although some people might just like this particular track. I tried to research into what people like and enjoy in a music video of this genre.Although I didn't take everything into consideration I still tried to think myself what I would like to see in an Indie music video, and that was something a bit different. So i tried to take everything into consideration to create something watchable and interesting but still similar to most indie music videos.
The lighting used in my Music Video was artificial so it was very bright and was basically a spotlight on all the actors, so it was quite intimate and just all about them. The colour palette in my music video was dark and not very eye-catching which is what I wanted, because in most Indie music videos that I had re-searched about they were the same, dull and not very eye-catching. I tried to keep the colour palette in all of the other elements of my music video the same, so that they all fit the same theme. Keeping the music video, digipak and website all the same keeps the audiences attention and makes it interesting, making them want to look on the website and watch the music video. Looking at all of my media products that I have produced they have been well constructed as they have all kept the same colour palette and theme throughout everything, which is very important and makes it look more professional.
